The district of Nandurbar came into existence on July 1
st 1998 after extracting some parts from the existing Dhule district. Thus, with the extraction of Dhule district one more district came into existence. Prior it the district of Jalgaon was also extracted from the Dhule district. In this way the formation of triangular districts namely Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar constituted the region known as Khandesh. Dhule was recognized as West Khandesh and Jalgaon was called as East Khandesh. As the result the historical records reveals the mix history of the whole region.
Some followers believe that Khandesh means the country of Lord Krishna. In the year 1906 from administrative point of view Khandesh district was divided in two districts namely East khandesh and West khandesh later the names of East Khandesh and West July 1st 1998 Dhule District was again exctracted in two district namely Dhule and Nandurbar. Nandurbar is also known as Nandanagri as the king Named Nandaraja was the ruler of this territory.

Tourist Destination: The district of Nandurbar is still under development process since its formation, there are not much more tourist destinations. But it would be necessary to mention that the two tourist places located at Nandurbar are the worth visiting places.

Asthamba: Asthamba is one of the most religious places of Nandurbar district located in Akrani Tahsil. One of the popular fair of the Triabals from south-Gujrat and north-west Maharashtra is the Asthamba fair.
