The history of Parbhani district of Maharashtra goes back to 650 years when it was under the control of Muslim Sultans and later under the supervision of the Nizam of Marathwada region of the Maharashtra state. After which it came under the control of the Nizam of Hyderabad State till the Operation Polo was launched by the Indian Army in 1948.
After it became an integral part of the Republic of India in 1948 and remained as a part of the Hyderabad State. In 1956 as the result of the administrative reforms the town came under the control of Maharashtra State and in 1960 it was constituted as one of the district of Maharashtra. Historically the name of Parbhani is derived from “Prabhavati Nagar” which was named after the local deity Goddess “Prabhavati” meaning the Goddess with an aura.
