Bus Services in Mumbai

Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport is the oldest transport organization and holds the pride of operating the vast bus transport network in country. Started in 1873 as a tramway company the organization took the charge of supplying electricity to the then Bombay in the year 1905 and later started operating bus services in the Bombay city since 1926.

A week before India’s independence in 1947 BEST became an undertaking of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai. Till 1995 BEST was pronounced as Bombay Electricity Supply and Transport, until the name of Bombay was changed into Mumbai. As the result of this resolution its name was changed into Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport, where as Brihanmumbai refers to Greater Mumbai.

At present BEST operates as an autonomous body and provides the bus service to entire Mumbai along with the outskirt areas of  Mumbai namely navi Mumbai, thane, mira road and bhayander. The buses operated by BEST have reserved seats for ladies, senior citizens, and physically disabled citizens. With an objective generating more profits by attracting more passengers especially the persons using taxis for transport, BEST has started operating air conditioned buses on few tracks.
Apart from this in its series of improvement for providing faster and safer transport facility to the citizens Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai introduced BRTS system  (Bus Rapid Transport System) in 2008.

    Frequency of bus no.59 is very very poor. V r residence of bhakti park n facing terrible time to wait for d bus, from half n hour to 1hour.

    DEAR SIR, I am a regular traveller for BEST No 457. but now the route has been changed from 01/12/2016. Will you be able to put the same route as before, because there is no direct bus from Goregaon (w) to Andheri (E). so can you please look in to this matter. Thanks

    Dear Sir, We are the regular travellers for BEST Air Condition Bus No 707 from Mira Rd, now from 01st Dec 2016 you'll have changed the destination from 04 Bungalow to Santacruz Depot, fine that is a call taken by BEST Management but due to that your daily customers are facing too much of problems, like on 01st Dec your first Bus from Golden Nest which was suppose to start at 08:00 A.M it started at 08:30 A.M and then on 02nd Dec the 02nd Bus which should start at around 08:35 A.M it started at 09:20 A.M that also when one of our friend Mr. Bilash Joshi called up at your Customer Call Centre No thrice and complained about the same, then all the 03 Air Condition 707 no Buses which was between 08:30 to 09:30 came back to back within 05 minutes. Even yesterday (02/12/16) Evng normally the A/C Bus No 707 which use to come at Malad D Mart by 06:55 P.M came at 07:30 P.M, one side BEST state that you'll running in loss and other side you'll are least bother about the Service, Standards, Punctuality then how will the customers prefer to use A/C Buses with more than double prices as compare to Normal Buses Ticket Price, also by canceling the Personal Vehicle and preferring the A/C Bus Service. Also would like to share that don't you think that Normally the A/C Bus Service with higher Ticket Rates will be more preferred at Morning by the people for going to office's where they should reach between 09:30 to 10:00 A.M to their office's and in the Evening for going back to Home from the Office's where more of the people get the Bus services between 06:30 P.M to 07:30 P.M so that they reach as early as possible, then what is the use of keeping the A/C Buses in between as because of that after sometime when you Analyses you will find that it is running in Loss. Also pls check the cleaning part inside the Bus it is so pathetic that you'll find big big Cob Web's and thick layer of Dust on the Blue clothes which are fixed above on the Seat or even you can check on the Yellow Rod's
