Emergency and Utilities in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has pioneered many helpline services that have later been adopted by the rest of the country. The administrative infrastructure of the state has also been open and transparent and officers in administrative posts are easily approachable for various utility requirements of the general public. Here’s a summary of the various types of Emergency and utility services that the government infrastructure of the state provides to its citizens.

Criminal and Public Distress Emergencies in Maharashtra

103 for crimes against women and senior citizens

This is a special number established and popularized by the government and police department for specific complaints of crimes against women and was launched n Thane in 2007 then extended to Mumbai the next year and on International Women’s day in 2010 was launched as an all state service.
The police generally respond to these calls within six to seven minutes.

Apart from this number, there are also Websites such as www.hamarsuraksha.com that help citizens draw attention of the state forces regarding their problems.

1091 Women in Distress Helpline in Maharashtra

This is a service started in 2012 whereby women in distress can directly contact this number to get emergency help. Superintendents of Police and Commissioners are directly responsible for calls to this number from their respective jurisdictions. This number can be directly dialed from a landline but one needs to prefix the local area code when dialing from a mobile phone.

102 Accident Helpline in Maharashtra

This number can be directly dialed to report or ask for help n accidents and will be directed to the respective police control room in that area.

Cab, Tourist Buses and Auto-Rickshaw Safety

Emergency Services in MaharashtraTo ensure safety of passengers in cabs, tourist buses, and auto-rickshaws plying all over Maharashtra, the state govt. has made it mandatory that license and permit numbers along with license and permit owner’s details be displayed on all such vehicles in a way that they are easily visible to travelers. Additionally the vehicles are also required to display Police Helpline and local transport helpline numbers. Additionally all major regional transport offices have a toll free number that citizens can use to report problems they face in public transport utilities or vehicles.

Health Emergencies in Maharashtra

108 – Ambulance

The Emergency Medical Services of Maharashtra (MEMS) launched 108 on Republic Day in 2014 and have a fleet of ambulances that are available throughout the year at all times for help as soon as ths number is dialed.

101 – Fire Brigade

This number can be dialed for help from the local fire station of any area n the state. Additionally one can also reach out to the Maharashtra Fire Services through their Website https://mahafireservice.gov.in/
This Website also has a facility to apply for fire approvals and license approvals online.

The Maharashtra government has launched two websites that contain all information about various state departments and various forms and applications that can be used by the citizens to avail the services provided by all the ministries of the sate. Tourist Helpline in Maharahstra

When a person from one place visits to some unknown place he usually gathers all information related to that place viz, its transport facility, its connectivity, about hotels, tourist destinations etc.

Some times unfortunately a situation rises when he needs an immediate help of some one who can guide him properly and help him in the best way to sort out the solution of his problem. To achieve this objective the tourist department of Maharashtra has issued some important numbers where the tourists can contact which are helpful to the tourists.
